A240 rebar is hot-rolled steel rods with a smooth surface, designed for reinforcing concrete products. It belongs to class A1 and is used as structural rebar, which sets the geometry and takes the load during expansion, shrinkage and thermal movement of the concrete mixture.
Production and main types
A240 rebar is manufactured by hot rolling, which is always followed by low-temperature tempering. This technology allows you to give the product the necessary plasticity, reduce brittleness, leave a smooth surface, but not reduce strength.
Main characteristics of A1 (A240) rebar:
Section – round.
Knurling – absent (smooth surface).
Rod diameter – from 6 to 80 mm. However, the most popular are rods up to 40 mm thick.
Type of products — coils (with a diameter of up to 12 mm inclusive) or rods (of any diameter).
Length of rods — standard from 3 to 12 meters.
Steel grades (low-carbon) used in production — semi-killed (designated St3ps), killed (St3sp) and boiling (St3kp).
Attention! A240 is deciphered as follows: the letter “A” indicates the type of profile — rebar. The number 240 indicates the yield strength of steel, which in this case is 240 N/mm2.
Scope
Rebar A1 is usually used as auxiliary elements in the creation of frames for reinforced concrete products or in the preparation of loop structures in construction. Rods can also serve as blanks for the manufacture of rebar profiles of class B500 and B500C. They can be used to manufacture welded frames, rebar meshes for various purposes.
Here is an incomplete list of tasks where the use of A240 rebar is appropriate:
• rebar of building structures – floor slabs, walls, floors; • manufacturing of parts for vehicles (ships, trains, cars); • manufacturing of hanging frames, fences, etc. The products are highly resistant to rust, exposure to aggressive chemicals. It is not afraid of contact with natural gas or chlorine. The A240 rebar profile is perfectly weldable, which allows it to be used for welded frames.
